Floodlight Replacement Success

Floodlight Replacement Success

Martyn Sexton3 Dec 2021 - 19:13

Herne Bay FC are feeling proud to have new LED floodlights installed and ready for the next home game.

We are pleased to report that our major project to replace our floodlights with a LED system has been completed. It’s a massive relief and will be welcomed by all our supporters, players and visitors, and especially by those involved in maintaining our old floodlights over many years.

The project started on Tuesday 9th November having been designed and planned by Midstream Lighting and Herne Bay FC is extremely grateful for the funding received from the Football Foundation.

A set of photographs can be viewed here.

The groundwork and installation were carried out by contractors Olighting from Nottingham, who under the leadership of Lee Bostock did a professional and very tidy job over the thirteen days they were at the MBS Stadium.

The team of Dave, Neil and Jack spent the first couple of days digging the 3.6 m3 c for the concrete bases. Assistance by our ground sponsor MBS who supplied the 14.4 m3 of concrete in a rapid and short timescale is appreciated.

The next job was to dig the around 260m of trenches around three sides of the pitch and lay approximately 500 metres of cable to the pylons. Backfilling and compressing the trenches, finished the groundwork phase of the project.

The last four days of the work was Oli joined the Olighting team installing the pylons, and terminating the electric cables in the power room and the base of the pylons. After the four 18m pylons were lifted in place, we were grateful for the speed and efficiency of Scott Whatley-Bates, Justin Blackwood and Chris Wheeler of Blake Electrics who powered up the new cables and completed the safety certification.

The final stage was finished on Thursday evening when the lights were switched on and the lux readings from all over the pitch were taken and sent back to Midstream Lighting.

Last but not least, the last thanks must be the to our supporters Barry Tracy, Ian Shulver and Andrew Anderson for the time they spent on this project and for assisting the contractors to complete a smooth transition, and also to our Chairman Stuart Fitchie for pushing through the planning and funding applications.

It would be marvellous to see you at the MBS Stadium to see our new lights for the first time in our games against Hastings United (11/12) and Sevenoaks Town (14/12).
