Coming off the back of three league wins, including a notable win over league leaders Broadbridge Heath last time out, fans were hoping for another good result in a derby game against Faversham Town at the Aquatherm Stadium.
The Bay were immediately on the back foot, when Faversham’s Jack Evans scored in the fifth minute from outside the box.
There were opportunities throughout the rest of the half for both teams, but neither were able to capitalise and get the ball in the back of the net.
At halftime, Herne Bay were behind by one goal.
In the second half, Evans went on to score a brace with his second goal coming in the 59th minute.
The Bay then struggled to get back into the game despite the team’s best efforts, which was then worsened by Faversham scoring a third goal in the 77th minute by Josh Stroud.
However, Herne Bay didn’t go home empty handed, with Rhys Wyborn scoring a consolation goal late on in the 90th minute.
Wyborn made a great run in-behind which was seen by Joe Taylor, who lifted the ball over the top and Wyborn hit it beautifully into the top corner.
The match ended 3-1 to Faversham, giving Herne Bay their first loss of the 2026/27 Isthmian League and leaving them ninth in the table.
