At Home vs Lewes 12.8.17

Ray Kelly Writes

During the close season Herne Bay appointed John Embery and Jermaine Darlington as joint managers. Their task was to field a competitive team from scratch following the mass exodus of last year's side. They amazed everyone by fielding a good looking, football playing side. The Bay's first league game was at home to Lewes FC who are most peoples favourites to win the league. For the first 15 minutes both teams were intent on attacking football but the first chance fell to Herne bay when Tom Carltons free kick from 30 yards failed to find Bay's captain Jono Richardson lurking dangerously.
Lewes forced a couple of corners in the 10th and 15th minutes but both were overcooked. Bay went to close on 17 minutes when Kingsley Aikhionbare fired wide from 20 yards out. Minutes later Jake Emery headed against the crossbar.
Lewes started to get on top as the half progressed but great goalkeeping from Ben Hunter kept Lewes at bay. The best chance of the first half fell to former bay player George Landias Who blazed over from 5 yards. On 44 minutes only another great save by Ben Hunter at the score at 0-0.
Half time.
The second-half started with Lewes taking the game to Herne Bay and only superb goalkeeping by the Bay's Ben Hunter get the Lewis side from going in front. On 51 minutes Alex Mulrooney-Skinner went close for the bay but fired wide across the Lewes goal. Then came a series of great saves from Ben Hunter. The last 10 minutes saw both teams counter attacking each other calling both keepers into action to keep the scores level at 0-0. Lewes continued to push forward and with only two minutes left on the clock James Hammond smashed the ball past Ben Hunter to seal the game for Lewes 1-0.
Herne Bay deserve to get something out of this game and they will not meet better site than Lewes FC in the forthcoming matches.
Bays man of match was Alex Mulrooney-Skinner.
