After bowing out of the FA Trophy on Saturday, attention turned to Herne Bay’s first game at home of the new season in the Isthmian League.
The Bay knew it was to be a match that required a top draw performance, as Broadbridge Heath sat at the top of the league after five games.
And they delivered a spirited performance at The Crest Stadium in front of 317 fans under the lights to give Broadbridge their first loss of the season.
Herne Bay struck first in the 18th minute when some great work down the right by Emmanuel Robe saw the ball crossed into the box and was met by Jacob Lambert who beat his man in the box and got his head to it first to smashed it into the goal to give Herne Bay the lead.
Broadbridge then equalised ten minutes later after they took a shot from outside the box that keeper Tom Wray knocked onto the post but Samuel Hards managed to get the follow up.
Just before halftime, Wray made a superb save to prevent Broadbridge from taking the lead.
At halftime, the game was level at 1-1.
The game didn’t stay level for long however.
Right at the start of the second half, Robe would be provider once again when a well-driven low ball in the box was tapped in by Henry Sinai to give The Bay the lead.
There were good chances throughout the rest of the half, especially with Robe being a thorn in the side of Broadbridge’s defence.
In the 57th minute, he showed excellent pace and skill to get past three defenders but before he was able to get the ball to another blue and white shirt, a Broadbridge defender arrived to stop the danger.
Then in the 75th minute, he almost notched a third assist of the night when he got the ball to Joe Taylor whose effort was matched by the keeper.
Emmanuel Robe was awarded man of the match, with other notable performances by players like Jacob Lambert, Sonny Black and Henry Sinai.
The game ended 2-1, with Herne Bay recording a third win in three league games, and their first win at home in the league.
