The Bay kick off the new season with a winning start after a three-goal win over Sheppey United, writes Robin Denyer
Herne Bay FC travelled to Holm Park to kick off their 2026 Isthmian League campaign against Sheppey United.
The first bit of action came in the sixth minute when opposition defender Harry Lawrence was sent off after a risky slide tackle on Herne Bay’s no. seven Antonio Morgan.
The Bay then took advantage of playing against ten men when only 12 minutes later, Joe Taylor scored in the 18th minute after taking advantage of a defensive mistake by Sheppey.
Herne Bay’s no. nine, Joe Taylor, went on to score a brace, when a low-driven cross from Rhys Wyborn on the left wing found him in the box in the 28th minute, where he hit it into the roof of the goal.
At halftime, Herne Bay led 2-0.
After the break they would score once more in the second half in the 58th minute.
Following his two goals, Lewis Gard assisted Jacob Lambert, who smashed a fantastic effort from the edge of the box into the top right corner.
There were also impressive debuts from two new signings; centre back Romel Aarons Royal and winger Antonio Morgan (Royal having signed from Brentwood and Morgan from Sittingbourne).
The full-time score was 3-0 to Herne Bay FC, and it marked The Bay’s first win in four attempts against Sheppey United.
Herne Bay FC are currently sat in 11th in the league table on three points after their first game.
