After beating Kingstonian in the first round, Herne Bay hoped to progress through in their second qualifying round against Southall.

It was a tough first half, with both teams battling to get on the scoresheet with not much between them.

There were some chances throughout, with Southall having a golden opportunity to snatch the lead in the 26th minute when it looked like Tom Wray was caught out but with some brilliant work, he managed to prevent what looked like a certain goal.

At halftime the score was 0-0, with supporters at The Crest stadium hoping the second half would come alive, and they would see some goals be scored.

While they did see a goal in the second half, it wasn’t scored by Herne Bay. In the 60th minute, after Southall moved up the pitch, one of their players went down in the box and the ref blew for a penalty.

Southall’s Daniel Roberts converted the pen to give them a 1-0 lead.

The Bay tried to get back into the game with some good opportunities in the 73rd minute when they had players in the Southall box but as Joe Taylor tried to get his shot off he was squeezed in and unable to shoot.

10 minutes later, Taylor found himself through on goal but frustratingly saw his effort saved by the keeper.

In added time, Jacob Lambert had a good shot from the edge of the box also saved by the keeper,

The full-time score was 1-0 to Southall, which meant Herne Bay were knocked out of the FA Trophy.
