A very good effort from East Grinstead Town, fielding most of their development side. Although technically and physically outplayed, they never gave up trying and were rewarded when their young forward, Harry Mark, pounced on a poor clearance to strike a fine volley from 20 yards into the top corner. That goal scored in the 15th minute cancelled out Zak Ansah’s superb lob over 1st team keeper, Matte Pierson in the 10th minute.
Rory Smith restored the lead on the half hour, dispossessing the midfield player, dribbling around another before volleying home. The wasps hit back with good efforts from Mark and Adrian Okoro that were well blocked by keeper, Lucas Hanley. Smith added his second and Bay’s third on 40minutes, another fine volley from 25 yards, to give Bay a 3-1 half-time lead.
Bay upped the tempo in the second period and following a number of substitutions, Laurence Harvey netted the fourth. From a free kick floated into the box, the ball fell to Harvey’s feet, and he smashed the ball home from 12 yards.
Substitute, Aaron Millbank with a clinical header from a corner made it five and Harvey, with another header, following up a Millbank headed effort, which rebounded off the bar, made it six.
Under 16 player, Devon Mason, made his 1st team debut on 69 minutes and certainly didn’t look out of place alongside the senior players.
Bay now look forward to the second-round home tie where our local rivals, Whitstable Town, are the visitors.
