Three minutes later Herne Bay equalised when Alex Mulrooney-Skinner breezed through a static Margate defence and slammed the ball past Stan Waller in the Margate goal.

Herne Bay brought on Sami Mezaine at the start of the second half ,replacing Sam Fairweather-Oates and within a minute he almost put the Bay into the lead , heading just wide after a cross from Ryan Catmull.
Herne Bay continued to attack and on 50 minutes only a good save from Stan Waller prevented Tom Carlton from scoring after a 30 yard free kick. The Bay fell behind on 54 minutes after Jack Evans slipped through the Bay defence and slotted past Rob Budd. 2-1 Margate. Two minutes later changes were made by both teams with Margate bringing on Ben Fitchett for Jay May and Herne Bay introducing Jardel Bunda-Kamara in place of Joseph Oseyemi. A few minutes later Danny Rumbol was replaced by Sam Mccallum for the Bay side.
In the 75th. minute Margate made sure of the tie when they added a third goal with Liam Friend heading in a Matt Bodkin corner.
