Herne Bay U13s 2–3 Baypoint Reds
A heartbreaking result despite a dominant Herne Bay performance
The scoreline certainly doesn’t tell the story of this game.
Herne Bay U13s produced a fantastic performance against Baypoint Reds, dominating large portions of the match and showing tremendous character, determination and quality throughout.
Herne Bay found themselves 1–0 down early on following an unfortunate own goal, but the boys responded brilliantly and continued to play their football. Their pressure eventually paid off when a mistake at the back from the Baypoint goalkeeper allowed Frankie Hines to react quickest and calmly finish to bring the game level at 1–1.
For a large portion of the game, Herne Bay were the better side. Ellis and his fellow defenders, alongside our CDM, controlled the game from the back, keeping Baypoint under pressure and allowing the team to play on the front foot.
Despite Herne Bay’s dominance, a silly mistake allowed Baypoint to regain the lead and make it 2–1.
But once again, the boys refused to give up.
Tyler Wells produced some lovely footwork before sliding a superb pass through to Harry Whitmore, who made no mistake with the finish to bring Herne Bay level once again at 2–2.
With momentum firmly behind them, Herne Bay pushed hard for what would have been a deserved winning goal. The boys continued to battle, creating pressure and looking the more likely team to take all three points.
Then, heartbreak.
With just minutes remaining, Baypoint produced a spectacular 30-yard strike into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper with absolutely no chance and giving Baypoint a 3–2 lead.
There was simply no time left for Herne Bay to find the equaliser.

A hugely frustrating result for the boys, who were incredibly unlucky not to come away with the victory. The performance was one full of fight, belief and quality, and on the balance of play, Herne Bay were by far the better team and delivered a dominating performance.

Man of the Match
Ellis – Centre Back
A commanding performance from Ellis at the heart of the defence. He showed composure, strength and leadership throughout and was instrumental in helping Herne Bay control the game from the back.
The result may have gone against us, but the boys can be incredibly proud of the way they played. Keep your heads up, boys — performances like this will bring plenty of wins.
