Herne Bay U14s unbeaten start to the season continued on Saturday by playing out a 13 goal thriller with an 8-5 win against Ramsgate in the Faversham and District Youth League.

Back playing in their blue and white home strip sponsored by St Brelades and The Cumberland Care Homes, Herne Bay started brightly with Stanley Waldron getting plenty of the ball down the right and his pace and crosses causing their defence plenty of problems early on. It wasn’t long before Stanley got himself a well finished goal from down the right, beating a player and rifling a shot into the net.

Billy Spinks then got himself a brilliant first half hat trick with three well taken goals, with two coming from good play again down the right from Stanley Waldron and Dexter Hale and one coming from solid defending from Ralphie Lee with the ball played nicely to Jaxon Morgan who laid it on for Billy to score. Great football.

Half time came and at 4-1 up we were in total control of the game but talked about keeping shape and discipline that seemed to suffer a little towards the end of the half.

It wasn’t long before we got ourselves further in front with good play and two more goals from Billy Spinks and another good goal from Stanley Waldron whose pace Ramsgate were struggling to deal with, this time from down the left.

7-1 and the game was done and Herne Bay looked in full control.

What followed was very much similar to the end of the first half, loss of shape and loss of discipline to stay in position with the ball being turned over to Ramsgate to quickly rather than just keeping the ball and passing it around.

Ramsgate started showing signs of getting in behind our defence and got themselves a goal back by following in from a good initial save by Harley Morgan-Ives.

Ramsgate then got three very quick goals to bring the game to 7-5 and to make for a nervous last five minutes!

With a few minutes left Marley Munt moved into the middle of the pitch and calmed everyone’s nerves with a nice finish to make it 8-5.

An entertaining game with plenty of positives but also a game with plenty that can be learnt.

All good though and another win for the boys to enjoy.

Player of the Match went to Billy Spinks for his five goals and his work rate but well done again to everyone.
