U13s through in the Kent Cup

Today’s report comes thanks to Phill Staveley who always keeps a keen eye!! Enjoy

The cup game has arrived and Herne Bay play an in form Holland & Blair side where the news is they have scored 18 goals & conceded none. From Rainsbury’s whistle, Herne Bay got the game underway a quick set to Jude who sent Liam quicker than the panic buyers racing to get petrol, gets his shot off & was unlucky as he puts it just wide. The game continues at a frenzied pace with some fluent passing football from the home team. Some great defending from all the boys at the back with Alex proving to be a revelation at centre back. The midfield were pressing with some great intensity today & winning the ball back quickly. Some great through balls were played one being to Oscar who slipped Liam through and on cue with Matt's cries of ‘shoot’ Liam doesn’t disappoint 1-0 to the blues!

Herne Bay goes in at halftime in the lead. Second half a few changes were made but they still come out solid & positive. Holland & Blair come out with a bit more fight but not enough to rattle the boys. Midway through the second half Herne Bay conceded a corner from a super slide from Alex which we managed to defend. Barn plays to Liam who plays the ball over the top. Frank latches onto it, dribbling down the wing, looks up & spots Oscar legging it into the box a beautiful ball straight to feet & Oscar as calmly as you like slots it into the bottom of the corner 2-0!
Even though the boys are 2-0 up they are still hungry for more & are all playing well. Will B does a dazzling run & plays Liam in, a peach of a cross & Oscar taps it in 3-0.

Surely game over but Holland & Blair have other ideas, they break quickly with an amazing shot on goal but keeper Will parries it out with an amazing stop who has been awesome all game. The ball falls nicely to their player who volleys it in the top corner Will has no chance & is unlucky not to keep a clean sheet. The game ends 3-1 & all the players deservedly go through to the second round, it was a fantastic team effort & everyone should be proud.

We know James is happy.
