Welcome back to all the old faces, and a huge welcome to all the fresh ones.
After a busy transfer window, where even the team moved clubs. Our journey begins with a home tie against Folkestone at the Safety Net arena. With the team now representing Herne Bay in the Kent league.
The sun was shining, the tunes were blaring and the scene was set. All we needed now was the boys to give us a story……..JK Rowling look out as here comes an epic.
A New look Herne Bay in Blue and White trim, kicking left to right for the first half. A blast from the refs whistle and the game is underway.
Herne Bay are straight onto the front foot and immediately put a squeeze on the opposition back line. Somewhat reminiscent of Phil grasping his wallet when it’s his round. Early high turnover within the first 5 minutes, sees the ‘lively’ Liam come away with the ball up the right. Delightfully Fed through to the tall Michael Owen, Oscar. This man don’t miss and opens his account for the season with a smart finish, right foot, bottom corner 1-0.
Herne Bay have started like a steam train… no not delayed, they are full steam ahead and win their third corner. Whipped into the blender, Push in the back for Jude. Ref points to the spot…….. penalty. Efe steps up. Cool him air conditioning as that’s Cooly dispatched, bottom right corner 2-0.
Herne Bay are now playing some delightful stuff. Passing it about like lads in Ibiza for the first time. Pop shot from Liam, 25 yards out. Heavy deflection, causing all kinds of spin on the ball, bounces just before keeper who spills it. Alex is on hand to help himself like myself at a free bar, and tucks into the net 3-0.
Half time is upon us and the game has flown by. The performance has matched the weather, unbelievable.
Second half under way and the team continue where they left off. Good pressure winning the ball high up the pitch by the solid midfield. With Efe rounding off a well worked goal with a crisp top bins finish 4-0. Call him Craig David, as he was born to do it.
More good play leading to plenty of chances. Into the midfield, first time around the corner by Bobby. Right into the path of Grease lightning Barn. Good finish 5-0. Forget track and trace as that was a ping for the assist.
Champagne football being played now, or at least Lambrini, as it’s Won back by Owen. He jinks past one, glides past another. Get him
On strictly as he’s danced his way through. Rolled into liam, who plays a 1-2 with Oscar….. dispatched with more efficiency than Amazon…….6-0.
The game goes on and the intensity has not dropped at all. This side look like a well oiled machine so far. Now they just need to see it out and get a clean sheet to put the icing on the cake.
But dramatic late twist, these boys aren’t quite done yet…. No no no, this is our game and we do as we see fit. Barn wins a header, jeez does this kid have springs in his shoes or is his dad a kangaroo, that’s some leap. It’s guided straight into the path of Oscar, who’s excited to fill him considerably large boots and makes it 7-0.
Final whistle goes and a perfect start to the new campaign. The biggest credit you could pay the side today is that any of them could have been man of the match. It must have been good as James is smiling more than on his wedding day.
Well done to all involved and the parents for their fantastic support. We go again next week, but let’s enjoy the fantastic start until then. Go well.
