A friendly rivalry amongst players and coaches due to an entwined history through youth football was the starting point since our long frustrating Covid break...
Expectations low, hope high but to just enjoy was the priority today..and boy did they!!
First 2 minutes Bay made fast work of getting into Dovers box, Odiase's shot and it spun into and off Whittaker's chest who allowed the ball then to run down his body onto his foot and he toe-poked it home for a fast start 0-1!!
A fairly even encounter for the next 15 minutes with 2 good chances for both teams gone a begging...Until Carabine playing at the unusual position of Right Back deserving huge credit for that, lays a slider into Odiase who creates problems once again and the Dover keeper can only parry a shot and the onrushing Robbens sniffing out a chance calmly sidefoots home for 0-2. Our Left side with Annis and Robbens combining well was proving to be too hot to handle for Dover!
On we pressed, gaining more possession and took the initiative and game to Dover on their own patch.. and the dangerous Odiase again unleashes a strike inside the crowded box and beats the Keeper to his near post for 0-3!! HT
The next goal crucial and a minor dally in centre mid allowed their talisman who was controlled superbly by Cole, Downs and Austin throughout was given free rein to shoot before he met our backline and it slipped under Emerson's arms and in for 1-3. Swing of momentum needed to be stemmed and Bay had to show their steely side, they did this for the required 10 minutes lead by Captain Hunter who was magnificent along with his deputies Sutton and Cole..this then allowed us to get back to attacking and we looked so dangerous, great balance shape and style of play for the first game back was impressive they deserved this win..so they went and got it!! thrusting forwards from all angles Kurt finding space linking with Whittaker, Zacaharia, Robbens and Odiase were pivotal, 2 touches and at times 1 touch combinations on the show and it was Odiase whom the ball fell to again in the box a swift change onto his left and ping into the net for 1-4 and the game looks over now.
Bay rampant for final exchanges as chances fell to Downs, Whittaker, Austen but just couldn't convert their dominance until Odiase races through from a central Kurt pass and he raced on..took it at an angle which suited his left peg and slots it far into the corner for his Hatrick!! 1-5 FT
A performance not expected that's for sure, truly excellent in parts..what a start.
Player of Match - Samuel Carabine, Late change in the lineup due to injury he took responsibility playing in a position he never played before and gave us no concerns, assisting a goal and handling their pacy winger...well done Sam.
