Two from Two

The 60’s took to the field at the Crest stadium on Monday night looking to make it two from two against an enthusiastic Bay City Strollers. With Ian Hamilton back in goal and Rob Rae back in defence the Bay fielded a very strong side. The first half was very one sided, Herne bay taking control from the start. Hamilton had very little to do in goal mainly because of Kevin Stevens and Rob Rae’s dominance in defence. Even though the Bay had most of the first half procession there were few chances created. Trevor Brown controlling the midfield along side Simon O’Leary and Glenn Parker who was In for an injured Harry Roberts. O’Leary did manage to get a shot on target midway through the half but it was dealt with by the Strollers keeper. The only real first half chance was when Brown put Kevin Marsh through only to see his shot hit the crossbar. Half time 0-0. The Bay came out with more purpose in the second half, Marsh scoring two goals in succession. First through the goal keepers legs and then turning his marker to shoot into the roof of the net. At 2-0 Herne Bay took their foot off the pedal allowing the visitors a shooting chance towards the corner of the goal, only to see the outstretched hand of Hamilton push it wide. Half way through the half Parker was swapped for Kevin McLaughlin who slotted into the left side of midfield. The Strollers were awarded a penalty after the dreaded four running rule kicked in. With a chance to get back into the game the visitors took the kick only to see Hamilton yet again pull off a fantastic save. Marsh sealed the win shortly after turning two defenders then slotted the ball into the bottom left corner with his left foot. Marsh was rested for Geoff Briggs and the Bay went on to see the game out quite comfortably 3-0.
MOM, Kevin Marsh for scoring the perfect walking football hat trick, left foot, right foot and a toe poke.
