Herne Bay Women's Development Squad are closing in on their Spring Series Group title in some style although this match did see them concede their first goal of the competition. The result had to be ground out but Bay triumphed as their opposition faltered toward the end of the game.

In the absence of a recognised 'keeper, Ellie Turner donned the green kit and multi coloured gloves, although make no mistake Turner is an accomplished custodian in her own right but is normally preferred as a flying winger and scorer. In the final analysis, she had little to occupy her though. A host of missed chances was finally rectified when Emily Brown opened the scoring in the 28th minute only to see that lead cancelled out shortly afterwards. Jordan Langstone struck on the stroke of half-time to give Bay an interval lead.

Oasis played a very high defensive line with the back four often less than ten yards from the half way line. It made it difficult to spring the offside trap. But Bay did, albeit not until 14 minutes from time when Alice Phillips extended the lead. Now, the floodgates opened. Two minutes later, Effie Dodds scored with the cheekiest of back heels, Langstone scored again then five minutes from time Dodds completed the scoring for the afternoon with a shot that game down off the cross bar and was, perhaps dubiously, adjudged to have crossed the line.

The Development Team will now travel the short distance to the University of Kent needing only to avoid defeat to finish top of their Spring Series table.

"I can't be more proud of the players out there today, several were carrying knocks yet still put in a performance", said manager Mark Bunt, "it was a terrific display in the circumstances and now we have a crucial match next week to finish the season on a high".
