Women's Manager steps down

sometimes recognising when to change is hard to accept
- Peter Whittaker

Herne Bay FC Women’s team manager, Peter Whittaker, has left the club. He advised the Women’s Secretary after the 3-0 win at Phoenix Sports, Bay’s third win on the bounce.

Peter Whittaker took over the reins almost two years ago. Whilst he was unable to prevent the team being relegated, he presided over an unbeaten league season that saw the team win the Division One title and return to the Premier Division.

In accepting his resignation, Women’s Secretary, Peter Guise said, “I have to say a big thank you to Peter Whittaker for his time as Women's Team manager. He took up the reigns without hesitation and the fruits of his endeavours are there for all to see, guiding the team to promotion back to the Premier Division was no mean feat. I would like to thank Peter for everything he has done to lift the Women's section of the football club and put it on course toward where I see as its rightful place in the Women's football structure. Three wins on the bounce is some swansong! Graham Miller who assisted Peter W is also leaving the club and I would like to also thank Graham for his service to the team. As Peter says, there is no right time to make this change but I respect his decision and also for the offer of help through the transition period. It has been an absolute pleasure working with Peter Whittaker and I look forward to the new era”.

Former manager Peter Whittaker commenting on his decision to step down said, “sometimes recognising when to change is hard to accept but I think it's the right thing to do for the good of the team. I have managed this team for almost 2 years and have gone through the pain of relegation and the delights of promotion and have enjoyed us show, especially today, that we are a solid Premier Division side. I'm always self-critical and believe a new fresh approach to development, team selections and communication is desirable for this squad going forwards”.

The club have moved quickly to appoint Howard Pearce as the new Women's Team manager. Howard has much experience as a coach and especially in the Women’s game with clubs at a higher level. We welcome him to the role and support him in his endeavours to take the team to a new level.
