Bay fight Back

For the second time in two weeks Herne Bay Under 14’s had to come back from 3 down to get a win.

Ashford took a 3 - 0 win into the half time after a first half that Bay would would like to forget. A half full of mistakes and very little else for Bay who found themselves playing a style of football that suited Ashford. The second half could only get better for Bay and a half time discussion showed that the team knew how to fix the problems that they faced.

Within minutes the Bay started to play a far better style of football cutting the Ashford midfield to bits. Alfie Wood who had been struggling with an ankle injury came on and provided the stability to the Bay midfield that was needed and it wasn’t long when Devon Mason beat the left back and floated a cross to the far post for Joseph Crowley to volley home from close range. This was just the spark that Bay required and soon after Devon Mason raced on to a through ball to round the keeper and finish for Bay’s second. Devon Mason then grabbed his second of the game when he fired across the keeper for Bay’s third. With the score tied at 3 - 3 and questions being asked of Ashford with every Bay move it wasn’t long until Devon Mason completed his Hat Trick when he controlled the ball in the penalty area and fired into the top corner for a 4 - 3 lead. Alfie Wood then left the game after a 10 minute spell that showed Ashford didn’t have any answers to the Bay’s attacking football.

Having come back from 3 down Bay then conceded a fourth when a mix up at the back allowed Ashford to pull one back to make it 4 - 4.

James Williams then curled a corner towards the far post for Bay that had the Ashford keeper flapping only for the ball to sail into the back of the net and 5 - 4 to Bay.

The good start to the season continues for the Under 14’s and with K-Sports coming to town they will need to play a lot better to continue this run and not give the opposing side a 3 goal head start.
