Banton joins the Bay

We are delighted to announce the signing of Jason Banton, who moves to the MBS Stadium following a short spell with Sittingbourne.

The winger, who can also play as a forward, progressed through the Arsenal and Blackburn Rovers academy set-ups before joining Liverpool in 2011. From there, he featured for the likes of Leicester City, Crystal Palace, and Plymouth Argyle, signing permanently for The Pilgrims in 2014.

Spells with Wycombe Wanderers, Notts County, and Crawley Town were to follow before Jason dropped into non-League by signing for Woking in 2017. From there, he suited up for Torquay United, St Albans City, Dulwich Hamlet, Truro City, Braintree Town, Romford, Cray Wanderers, and Kingstonian, all before joining Sittingbourne ahead of the 22/23 season.

After securing his signature, Herne Bay manager Ben Smith was delighted to have brought him to the club.

“We are really excited to get Jason over the line. He is a player that we have looked at before but missed out on a couple of times,” said Smith.

“Jason has got good experience from his professional days as well as from the league we are currently in, with the likes of Bishop’s Stortford and Kingstonian.

“He is a player that will add a lot of quality to us and that experience which we have been missing and crying out for, to be honest.

“We haven’t started the season as we would have liked, but signings like Jason and the movement we are going to be doing over the next week or so will be to try and improve that experience across the squad.

“There have been some outs, but we are working very hard on some ins and those will come with experience.”

Welcome aboard, Jason!
