The Bay surrender two-goal lead as Ramsgate bag pre-season win.

Herne Bay were on the wrong end of a five-goal scoreline at Southwood Stadium on Saturday afternoon as Ramsgate secured a comeback 3-2 win.

Two well taken goals from Rodney Adamon-Eruotor put Ben Smith’s side ahead at the break as they looked to bounce back from last fortnight’s defeat to Sheppey United.

Minutes after the restart, Jordan Chiedozie reduced the Bay’s lead to one with a powerfully struck free-kick that left Patrick Ohman with little chance.

Josh Ajayi soon levelled things up on the hour mark with a close-range finish as Ramsgate continued to apply pressure on the visitors’ goal.

And the visitors completed the comeback with ten minutes to spare when Ajayi bagged his second of the game following another dangerous free-kick.

Herne Bay began the game brightly and but for a good save from Josh Bexon, they could have had the lead as early as the fourth minute. Mike West picked the onrushing Jack Parter out with a brilliant pass from outside the Ramsgate penalty area but faced with a difficult angle, Parts could only watch as his effort was dealt with by the ‘keeper.

The Rams were putting up a good fight in what was a well contested first 45, with their number 10 heading narrowly wide from a dangerous cross into the Bay box in the seventh minute.

Starting in goal in place of Jordan Perrin, Patrick Ohman was looking composed as the hosts pressed forward, dealing with number nine’s shot in the 13th minute.

But it was the visitors who forced their way in front only minutes later through Adamon-Eruotor, who gathered a defence-splitting pass before firing the ball into the roof of the net.

Having missed the Sheppey defeat, Kieron Campbell was looking to hit the ground running and he did just that in the 26th minute, weaving his way past the Ramsgate defence before setting Adamon-Eruotor up with a simple finish from close range, doubling Herne Bay’s lead.

Despite being two-goals down, the hosts were still well in this game, forcing Ohman into a terrific save on the half hour mark, with the ‘keeper tipping a ferocious effort over the crossbar.

If anything, it was Ramsgate that were ending the half the stronger, only to lack composure in front of goal. The hosts number seven was presented with a glorious chance to half the deficit in the 40th minute, but his close-range header drifted well wide.

They didn’t let up once the game got back underway and just four minutes into the second half, they found the goal they were looking for. Having been awarded a free-kick right on the edge of the penalty area, Chiedozie whipped the ball into the top corner beyond the outstretched ‘keeper.

Herne Bay were being put under plenty of pressure as the second half went along and soon enough, the game was all square. On the hour mark, Rams’ top scorer last season Ajayi found enough space between the Bay defence to turn the ball home from the edge of the six-yard box.

A whole host of changes were made by the visitors and two of them almost linked up to take back control of the game. Frankie Morgan did brilliantly with the ball at his feet before threading the ball through for Eddie Allsopp with 20 minutes to go, but much to his disbelief, the linesman had raised his flag for offside.

But with just 10 minutes to go, Ramsgate completed the turnaround with yet another freekick on the edge of the Bay box. This time, it was Ajayi who stepped up but just like Chiedozie before him, he made no mistake, keeping the ball low and bending it into the bottom corner.
