The Bay put their three-game unbeaten run on the line this Tuesday evening when they welcome Haringey Borough to the MBS Stadium.
Following back-to-back draws against Brightlingsea Regent and Wingate & Finchley, Kevin Watson’s side put in another impressive performance but were ultimately held to a 2-2 draw at home by mid-table Billericay Town.
Kymani Thomas got the Bay off to a fast start, scoring after only three minutes following a mistake among the Billericay ranks.
Imran Uche levelled things up midway through the first period, before a second strike from Thomas handed the hosts a 2-1 lead heading into the break.
Bradley Stevenson’s second half penalty drew the visitors level as mid-table Billericay piled the pressure on Jordan Perrin’s goal.
But the Bay held firm and claimed a deserved point, extending their unbeaten run under the new management team to three games.
The Opposition
Tuesday evening’s visitors were established in 1973 by a merger of Edmonton and Haringey Borough (formerly Wood Green Town) and was initially named Edmonton & Haringey. The new club took Edmonton's place in Division One of the Athenian League and adopted their current name after finishing bottom of the division in 1975–76.
Currently based at the CVS Van Hire Stadium, Haringey Borough enjoyed a successful start to the 90s, won the London Senior Cup. In 1995 they were renamed Tufnell Park, taking the name of one of the clubs that had merged to form Edmonton, but reverted to the Haringey Borough name the following year.
At the end of the 2011/12 season, the Borough were transferred to the Essex Senior League, where their Coles Park tenants Greenhouse London also played. The 2014–15 season saw the club win the Essex Senior League, earning promotion to Division One North of the Isthmian League.
After an unsuccessful play-off campaign at the end of the 2016/17 season, Haringey managed to go one better the following season, beating Canvey Island 3-1 in the final to secure promotion to the Premier Division, and have played in that league since.
They began their 2022/23 season with a narrow 2-1 loss at the hands of last season’s play-off runners-up Bishops Stortford.
Opposition so far
Currently, Haringey Borough have so far not enjoyed the kind of campaign they had hoped for, with the club having aspirations of breaking into the National League setup.
At the time of writing this, Tuesday’s visitors sit 15th in the Isthmian League Premier Division table, four places and nine points above the final relegation place, a spot currently occupied by resurgent Corinthian-Casuals.
From the 19 games Haringey Borough have played so far this season, they have won six, drawn six, and lost seven, scoring 32 goals but conceding 34 for a goal difference of -2.

Last time we met
The last time we met Haringey Borough was earlier on in the season when, under the stewardship of Ben Smith, we secured an impressive 4-2 win victory on the road, our first of the season.
Goals from Hassan Jalloh and Marcel Barrington saw Ben Smith’s side race away to an early two-goal lead at The CVS Van Hire Stadium.
However, the hosts wiped out that advantage, with efforts either side of the half-time break from Anthony Mendy and Rakim Richards drawing Haringey level.
Helge Orome turned the ball home from the edge of the six-yard box midway through the second period to restore the visitors lead.
And Jalloh put the finishing touches on an impressive team performance towards the end of play, blasting his second, and the Bay’s fourth, past home ‘keeper Luke Mewitt.

Premier League Stadium Fund
Courtesy of the Premier League Stadium Fund, we are delighted to announce that the Premier League Trophy will be taking pride of place in our clubhouse before Tuesday evening’s game.
From 6pm onwards, fans are invited to come along and have their picture taken alongside the most coveted domestic football trophy in world sport.
The Premier League Stadium fund has already played a key role in helping continue the development of the MBS Stadium, providing a sizeable sum towards the development and laying of the state-of-the-art artificial playing surface, as well as the brand-new floodlights.
For a community-based club like this one, this kind of funding is incredibly important for the sake of development, cementing a long-term future, and providing a valuable community asset.
With that being said, we are extremely thankful for the support the Premier League Stadium Fund has been able to provide Herne Bay FC.
