The football played showed real intensity with the Wasps "working their socks off" throughout the match, closing down and thwarting Bays attacks. Throughout the first half, Keiron Campbell, gave full-back Diago Carmo, a torrid time. Unfortunately, his electrifying runs down the left flank were let down with poor delivery or wayward passes. On one of these runs, he let fly with a fierce volley which wasps keeper Matte Pierson saved well. All other attacks seem to fizzle out, shooting wide or high over the target.
The host most threatening attacks came from the long ball, which centre forward Omar Nyame caused moments of panic in Bay's normally steady defence. Aaron Millbank, Adem Ramadan, Zak Ansah and Campbell were linking up well, building attacks, but most of these efforts ended up with losing possession, or wayward shooting.
The second period saw the host come more in the game, having more possession, but like Bay never really threatened Bays goal. Both sides built up quick attacks every time they regained possession, but real goal attempts were few and far between. In the final five minutes, Bay applied real pressure on Pierson.
Bode Anibugbe, who had a good game in the midfield, fired a powerful volley just wide of the upright with Pierson beaten. Millbank was substituted by Eni Amgbaduba and it was he who outjumped ex Bay, Corey Walters-Wright, to win a header that put Ansah free to round the keeper and fire into the empty net. Unfortunately, the assistant referee flagged offside and the goal was ruled out. (Watching Ken's video, shows that Ansah was onside when Eni headed the ball).
Pierson pulled off one final diving, one handed, save from a Jack Parter’s goal bound shot from close range.
At the end, a draw was the fair result. East Grinstead deserved to come away with a share of the points for their contribution to a good game of football.
