The earlier statement made by the directors regarding the resignation of Tony Mills was to be the only comment made by the Board.
Unfortunately following a week of constant postings on Social Media and emails slating the directors and the management team the club must issue a full statement of the decision made to seek Tony’s resignation.
On Friday evening Tony had an exchange of texts with the team joint manager, John Embery regarding the issue of Ben Gorham playing for Canterbury City in the FA Vase instead of playing for HBFC against Guernsey.
Tony was told that Ben had to attend a christening on Saturday morning which wouldn’t allow him to play for HBFC.
At a meeting on Thursday this issue was raised and Tony and JWB thought it sounded ‘ convenient’. whereas WD and RB had both stated that if a player had a chance of playing at Wembley then we should not stand in Ben’s way.
Tony had a conversation with John E expressing his and JWB’ s views on this.
Following a post by Tony, Ben and his father, followed this up with a post on the Loyal facebook page insisting that Tony apologises to Ben.
In the exchange of texts on Friday Tony “thanked John E for throwing him under the bus” and followed this with a further text, worded as if it expressed the views of the board, which was less than complimentary to John and Jermaine.
John responded with an email to board members on behalf of the management resigning with immediate effect, So at 9.00pm we had no management, and no team to play Guernsey. which would have resulted in having to call off the game and paying £4,000 to Guernsey to cover the cost of the flights, plus a league fine of at least £1,000 for failing to fulfil the fixture.
The board had no option but to ask Tony to resign from the board which he did.
The issue of taking away his “voluntary’ work at the club came about because as he was no longer a board /committee member he should no longer be able to run the bar or operate the gate.
The constant barrage of posts on social media about the actions of the Board is destroying the football club and if these continue, the remaining directors will have no choice but to walk away from the club. This is not an idle threat; with the amount of time and money that has been put into the club by the current directors it is felt that enough is enough and they will no longer support the club if this social media criticism continues unabated.
It will be extremely disappointing if this decision is made but every time the board act in the best interest of the club they are criticised and are always portrayed as the villians.
