The title may have already been won, the season's end just around the corner, but Herne Bay seem determined to go into the close season, professional, to the final whistle of the final match, writes Peter Guise.

Top scorer Lauren Harris set the stall out when she netted after just seven minutes. It was followed by two more in as many minutes from Kate Foster and Lauren Williams. The game was over as a contest but Bay were relentless. Kayleigh Mount's 33rd minute free kick sailed into the top corner and Lauren Williams added her 2nd of the game with a 20 yard drive and when Abigail Duff struck four minutes from half time to make it six, Bay might have been forgiven for taking the foot off the pedal. They didn't. After the break they were thwarted on more than one occasion by the linesman's flag but Sophie Gifford making only her third start in the league thwarted the flag thrice for her second hat-trick of the campaign.

"That was very satisfying, composed and contolled, we showed at times why we are champions,", said manager Peter Whittaker, "we gave more minutes to some players who haven't had too much time on the park this term and the performances were good. We tried a few new methods out and I'm pleased with the result and the work ethic. Kayleigh's (Mount) free kick was a worldy. We are looking forward to next season but are still focussed on our final game of the season in two week's time".
