Carshalton Athletic are chasing the title, one place and two points behind leaders Lewes, with the Robins having a game in hand. But Herne Bay are no respecters of league position as was shown in December when Bay won 2-0 at Colston Avenue with Jake Embery and Josh Wisson scoring the goals. That was Carshalton’s last defeat and since then they have won 13 and drawn three.

Carshalton Athletic traces its roots to two separate teams playing in the area of Wrythe Green in Carshalton in the early twentieth century. Whilst the club's history is dated to the formation of Mill Lane Mission in 1905 it also recognises the importance of officials and players of Carshalton St Andrews in its history. Carshalton Athletic joined the Corinthian League after the Second World War winning the championship in 1952/53 & 1953/54. For the next 17 years the club competed in the Athenian League with very little success. In the summer of 1973 they finally achieved a promotion of sorts when they were elected as founder members of the newly created Isthmian League Division 2. Four seasons later they achieved promotion, as runners-up, to the Isthmian Premier where they stayed until the 2000/01 which again saw relegation.

At the end of the 2003/04 season the Robins ended as Isthmian League Division One South Champions thus qualifying for the new Conference South. Carshalton retained their place in the Conference South in 2004/05, but in 2005/06, the club's centenary season; they were relegated back to the Isthmian League Premier Division. Carshalton finished 21st in 2012/13, which ordinarily would have seen them relegated. However, a points deduction and consequent relegation for Thurrock gave them a reprieve, which lasted one season, finishing next to bottom in 2013/14 and moving down to Division One South. They finished in 20th place in their first season in the South and a 3g pitch was installed in the summer of 2015 where they ended the campaign in 10th. In 2016/17, they were subject to a points deduction for playing an ineligible player (against Herne Bay) but would still have ended a point away from the play-offs.

We have met seven times in the Isthmian League with Bay having the better record, three wins, two draws and two defeats and a positive goal difference of two.

Last Saturday The Robins won 1-0 at Walton Casuals and sit in 2nd place, 9 positions and 29 points ahead of Herne Bay, both sides having played 41 times.

The three previous meetings at Winch’s Field have seen crowds of 216, 189 and 161 (an average of 189).
