Bay vs Welling United

The under 14’s faced Welling United in the league cup on a wet and windy Sunday morning. The game started with both sides trying to keep possession with a midfield battle that would be key throughout the game. With Welling sitting top of the North Division and Bay 2nd in the South Division this was always going to be an interesting game.

Bay took the lead when a through ball to the right hand side looked like it would be dealt with by the Welling keeper and left back when Devon Mason showed the left back a clean pair of heels and raced away and beat the keeper to the ball. Devon then crossed for Woody Ebrill to stretch and place the ball into an empty net for 1 - 0. Welling looked shell shocked and tried to get back on equal terms early on, only for the back four of bay to take control and with keeper Jacob Webb in good form Welling found it difficult to break Bay down.

Welling were unable to cope with the pace of Devon Mason who out paced the Welling defence to round the keeper and slot the ball away for 2 - 0 to Herne Bay.

Welling once again looked to find a way past Herne Bay with a great strike, in which Jacob Webb made a fabulous save and tipped the ball onto the crossbar. Towards the end of the half Welling hit both the post and crossbar and Bay went close a few times with some flowing passing moves but headed into half time 2 - 0 up.

As the second half started Bay expected Welling to try and pull something back and looked to hit them on the break. A good move from Bay resulted in corner. As the ball came over Anthony Simes climbed high to head towards the goal only for the ball to fall to the feet on Anthony Simes who then hit the ball into the corner for 3 - 0.

Welling started to throw everything at Bay who looked in control at the back. Welling did create a few more chances only for Jacob Webb to deal with. A good strike from the edge of the area found a way past Jacob Webb for 3 -1. Bay maintained their defensive shape to see the game out and a great 3 - 1 win against last seasons finalist.

Bay are away to Carpe Diem in the Kent Cup next week.
