Herne Bay fan favourite passes away

Everyone at Herne Bay Football Club is devastated to learn that former centre forward and fan favourite, Andy Ballantyne passed away over the weekend.

Andy played for the Bay from 1989-90 to 1995-96, scoring an impressive 34 goals in 38 appearances during the 1991-92 season.

He played under Trevor Gowan and Tommy Sampson and went on to win a Kent League Championship with both men (91-92 and 94-95).

During the 94-95 season, Ballantyne had a short spell with Whitstable.

He will be fondly remembered as a gentle giant off the pitch, but an old fashioned centre forward who really knew how to put himself about.

We would like to offer condolences to Andy’s family and friends at this sad time.

Rest in peace, Andy!
