Having left East Kent in 23 degree sunshine, the weather that this match was played in amounted to the exact opposite, driving rain and a temperature 8 degrees lower. It was not conducive to pretty football although Bay did manage to give their natural game an outing from time to time.
Kate Foster got in between the defenders in the 11th minute to open Bay's account and when she scored a second from distance 14 minutes later it looked as though the floodgates would open. But Long Lane employed a robust brand of football to disrupt Bay's progress with Abigail Duff receiving more than her fair share of attention. Last year's leading goalscorer, Lauren Harris, netted her seventh of this season five minutes after the break and when Asmaa Hatim was put clean through by Megan Pearce 8 minutes from time she scorched a fourth and the points were safe.
"It was an intense game and we had the luxury of giving a substantial run out to squad members", said manager Peter Whittaker, "we met that robust challenge head on and battled hard in tough conditions, we thoroughly deserved that win".
