Double headers are a strange phenomenum in football and produce some odd results at times. The 90 minute format and tactics are set aside for two back to back one hour matches (30 minutes per half) between the same sides. On the face of it the 'home' side should have a clear advantage but that is not always the case as in this particular example. Crawley Wasps' second string had the margin of comfort of a mid table position but here was a chance for Herne Bay Ladies to gain points in their quest to avoid relegation to a division they last played in five seasons ago. It certainly looked to be going to plan when they came from behind in the first game to record only their second league win of the season thanks to an equaliser from Lauren Harris and an emphatic winner from Asmaa Hatim. Three points in the bag and when Kayleigh Mount headed Bay ahead early on in the second game it looked as though the script was being followed. But Wasps had a sting in the tail to deliver. An equaliser arrived and then with the referee about to blow the final whistle for what would have been a valuable point for Bay, the visitors snatched the second three points on offer with a superb strike that rocketed into the corner of the net.

Bay must now look to another double header to preserve their Premier status, also at Winch's Field, next Sunday against fellow relegation strugglers Ashford Ladies, a real six pointer if ever there was one.

Herne Bay Ladies: Rachel Tracy (game 1), Sarah Cooper (game 2), Kayleigh Mount, Jade Childs, Debbie Blackmore, Lucy Page, Saraya Phillips, Chloe Woolaway, Kate Foster, Jemma Barton, Maddie Chapman, Lauren Harris.

Subs - roll on/roll off (all used): Effie Dodds, Monique Beaumont, Cara Lockwood, Asmaa Hatim, Katie Reeves.
