Herne Bay Ladies achieved the double for the season over fellow promotees Camden Town with this clean sheet victory in the shadow of the Lords Cricket Ground and with the various inhabitants of London Zoo within earshot.
Despite only having a squad of 11, Bay snaffled the points having started the game brightly during which Nicola Morris put the visitors ahead with a strike from 30 yards that sailed over the ‘keeper and into the net. Camden had a golden opportunity midway through the first 45 when awarded a penalty after Sarah Cooper felled the on rushing striker but the spot kick went the wrong side of a post. The home side piled on the pressure but the Bay defence were resolute and reduced Camden to long range efforts.
After the break it was more of the same as Camden sought an equaliser and the afternoon was complete when against the run of play, and from a tight angle, Carly Farrow squeezed the ball home for Bay’s second.
Herne Bay Ladies manager, Anthony Deer, said, “Our passing game let us down today but we got the three points. We know we need to improve, we can still finish in the top three, a tremendous effort in our first season at this level. It’s going to be a tough game at London Corinthians next week”.
