Herne Bay Ladies 100% home league record evaporated into the Winch’s Field night sky with this first ever goalless draw in league competition in three seasons.

“A very frustrating night indeed!” said Ladies manager Anthony Deer, “We wasn't near our best in the first half, improved a lot in the second but just couldn't find that elusive goal we needed to win the game”.

That said, Rangers were a very organised side, passed the ball well to feet, controlled the midfield for large periods of the game and looked a different outfit from that which had lost at Winch’s Field earlier in the season in the 2nd Round of the SECWFL League Cup.

Bay did have chances in the first half, notably a cool chip from Holness in the 11th minute that set Tulett up but her shot was well saved by Kelly Amee in the Ranger’ goal. 10 minutes before the turnaround, Rachel Tracy, who has rediscovered her penchant for scoring from free kicks, saw her latest dead ball kick go just over the visitors’ crossbar.

After the turnaround, the game flowed from end to end and Bay were indebted to ‘keeper Sarah Cooper’s fine save from point blank range to preserve the clean sheet. As the half wore on Bay surged ever forward producing a barrage that still could not penetrate Ranger’s defence well marshalled by Nicola Wilson. Carly Farrow thought she had grabbed the winner in stoppage time from another pin point Tracy free kick but the goal was ruled out for a foul on the ‘keeper.

Parkwood Rangers moved up to 6th in the league table with this point whilst title chasing Bay remain in 3rd spot 10 points behind leaders Dartford Royals but Herne Bay Ladies have four games in hand. It all points to what could be a showdown at Winch’s Field on Easter Sunday.

“A tough finale for the end of the season but it is still in our hands at the moment”, said Deer, “everyone knows we need to improve on tonight's performance, we just have to be patient and it will come”.
