Herne Bay, once stung into action by conceding an early goal, responded ruthlessly against an Anchorians side that started the game one player short and played most of the second half with just nine through injury and finally with only eight on the park.
“After a very lazy start, we found our rhythm quickly and piled misery on Anchorians”, said manager Anthony Deer, “Anchorians always cause us problems but only starting with ten, it was more a formality in the end!”
Anchorians stung the Bay in the opening minute with a stunner in every sense of the word when Caira Laing’s strike from outside the right edge of the penalty area rocketed up and over Sarah Cooper into the far corner.
Then Bay hit back, might have scored in the 11th but Kate Foster dragged her shot wide, then did score to equalise 3 minutes later when Harriett Chapman opened what would be a considerable personal account for the afternoon, when she robbed Emily Beedell and went on to slot home. 4 minutes later Chapman forced the ball home at the far post to give Bay the lead and, in the 26th minute, Nicola Harris guided her near post header from Kate Foster’s right wing corner, across goal and in at the far post.
Three goals in the space of the opening seven second half minutes, with Anchorians reduced through injury to nine players, settled the tie as a contest. First, Vicky Holness slotted home from Kayleigh Mount’s expertly threaded pass, then Isabella Tulett drove across the face of the ‘keeper followed by the completion of a hat-trick for Harriett Chapman when she dispatched the ball right footed past Gemma Norton in the visitors’ goal.
More agony was to follow for Anchorians. Chapman scored again, then laid on a pass for Holness to get her second before Debbie Blackmore made it 9 for the afternoon with a cheeky lob from wide on the right. Double figures came up with Tulett bagging her second when played in by Foster and two more from Chapman with the final whistle beckoning completed a miserable afternoon for Anchorians.
"I’m disappointed in conceding a goal but happy to see all the front line getting on the score sheet.! Fair play to Anchorians for continuing to play the match even when they went down to 8 players”, said Deer, “A much needed 3pts and the twelve goals will help our goal difference but it's going to be a different game next week (away to Gillingham in the Kent FA Women’s Cup Semi Final) so slow starts must be a thing of the past if we are going to proceed to the final”
