"It was a tough game, frustrating at times", said manager Anthony Deer, "but three goals in three minutes killed the game. Difficult conditions but three points is three points."
Although Bay were quick out of the blocks they were repelled by a hard working Crockenhill who showed plenty of eagerness to be first to the ball and exploit space on the park. In an even first half the visitors went closest 5 minutes before the break when Carly Farrow's drive was well saved by Amy Coster who was by far the busiest of the two 'keepers.
After the break, Herne Bay continued to pour forward but it wasn't until the 81st minute that the opening goal of the game arrived and then the floodgates opened. Sarah Holmes put in a searching cross from the right a defender headed over Kate Foster at the near post and Isabella Tulett headed back across goal and in with the Crockenhill defence caught flat-footed. Within 60 seconds Bay doubled their lead. Debbie Blackmore blasted home from the spot after Tulett had been brought down. Harriett Chapman, playing her first game for three weeks, made it 3 in 3 minutes when she headed home after the excellent Coster had parried her first effort.
Three more league points in the bag as the push for a third successive promotion gathers pace with the added bonus of a morale boosting win ahead of next Sunday's FA Women's Cup tie.
"It's important we get our preparations right this week", said Deer, "we want to make sure we get it right and get everything ready."
