Report by Anthony Deer, Ladies Team Manager

Herne Bay Ladies vs. Sheppey United Ladies League 24th March 2013
Result: Herne Bay Ladies 19 – Sheppey United Ladies 1

The Ladies are still on course for lifting the league title after demolishing Sheppey United Ladies today. Although the weather was bitterly cold, and with a lot of hatred from the ladies today, the match was deemed playable despite the sprinkling of snow on the surface of the pitch. However, with a job need doing and knowing that Long Lane Reserves had no game this was a great opportunity to regain pole position and improve our goal difference. The ladies were set another target and once again they delivered at did it by playing some fantastic football.

Both halves of the match were extremely identical with Emily Johnson once again being a spectator for most of it, the scoring was high and the goals all came within minutes of each other. Within the first minute of the game the first goal was scored. Shona Clark was the goal scorer, from here on in the goals came thick and fast. The first half goal scorers were Kiya Mills (2), Shona Clark (2), Vicky Holness (2), Rachel Tracy, Kate Foster and scoring her first goal of the season Chantelle Bleau. Who scored from the penalty spot! The only spot on a near perfect half was the one goal conceded. But with nine goals already scored we were already comfortable.

Already being 8 goals ahead, motivation to score more was at first difficult because of the weather but with four minutes of the second half we managed to score three goals in quick succession! This demoralised Sheppey who only had two other chances in the second half. The second half scorers were Vicky Holness (5), Kiya Mills (2) Lesley Kay (2) and Shona Clark who completed her hat trick.

The defence didn’t have too much to do today but when they had the ball the calmly played the ball from one side to another and helped set up several of the goals. Between the link up play between defence and midfield, and the midfield and forward line it was a pleasure to watch today as we played the ball along the floor at every opportunity with one or two touch passing resulting in either a goal or a chance on goal! The ladies were clinical today with a few more chances that could have gone in had it not been for some lucky and sometimes strange goalkeeping form the Sheppey custodian.

We now find ourselves top of the league with the same games and points as Long Lane reserves but now have a 16+ better goal difference! With both teams having four matches remaining in the league, the league title will go all the way to the last game of the season, neither team can now afford to slip up! The ladies once again have shown their dominance in this game and are focusing on each game as it comes. We have no fixture next Sunday which will give Long Lane the opportunity to regain top position. Our next fixture is our first chance of some silverware against Parkwood Rangers in the KCFA Kent Plate which is being played at Sevenoaks Town’s ground on the 3rd April 2013 with a 7:30pm kick off. This is a great opportunity to see how far we have come this season as Parkwood play in the division above!
