Teynham Gunners Vs. Herne Bay Ladies
League 3rd March 2013
Result: Teynham Gunners 1 – Herne Bay Ladies 10

We are now coming into the business end of the season and going into today’s game we were still three points behind Long Lane Res and a goal difference of 14 with a game in hand. Each week we are setting ourselves targets so we finish the stronger at the end of the season. A few players were missing as they had work commitments but the players who were involved rose to the challenge and delivered the result and the goals needed.

The weather today did not stop the determination of our ladies, although a wind chill of minus 2, the ladies knew they had to get a job done and they did so with some ease. It took about 10 minutes to begin the scoring with top scorer Vicky Holness starting the proceedings, then for the next 20 minutes it was all one way traffic, with goals from Isabella Tulett, Kate Foster and two from Kiya Mills, one which hit the top corner and was the 100th goal scored in the league this season! The last 15 minutes of the half saw Teynham have their best spell of the game, as for some reason we dropped off and allowed them to play. Their closest chance came after a shot went past Emily Johnson only to see it hit the post!

We all huddled in the changing rooms at half time and the message was to keep playing the football that we were playing and improve our decision making in our passing and when we were in front of goal. And of course score more goals! The ladies listened and within minutes of the restart we scored our sixth of the game courtesy of Kate Foster, we continued to press forward and were rewarded time after time, Vicky Holness grabbed her second, Lesley Kay hit two within five minutes of each other and Kiya completed her hat trick! However, the only skirmish on today’s game was the one goal conceded, but the ten goals that we scored made up for it, at times our passing game was as good as it has ever been, but with it being so cold, it was difficult to maintain the levels for long periods of time and we found ourselves under needless pressure but dealt with it accordingly. There was even another penalty today but once again unsuccessful.

A fact worth knowing, if we converted all our penalties this season our goal difference would be the same as Long Lane Reserves, penalty practice will be high on our training schedule in the next couple of weeks!

Once again the target was met and now for the second week in a row we have scored 10 goals! With just six more games left, each game has a different target which I know that the ladies will do their utmost best to achieve! For our first season as a team I could not ask for anymore of them but now they need to focus on each game as it comes as now we need to treat every game as if it’s a cup final! Cliché I know, but these ladies hate losing, hate conceding and hate giving possession away. They certainly have the grit between the teeth and will stop at nothing to reach their personal goals and improve confidence within the team!
