Herne bay ladies continued their league campaign with a 3 - 0 victory over Aylesford ladies res, on what could only be described as a monsoon! With the wind and the rain making conditions extremely hard to play for both teams any sort of result would have been a good one!
After winning the toss, we decided to play against the wind in the first half, aylesford defended very deep and with numbers as they knew we had a potent strike force from the previous matches! Herne bay had the better of the chances and were rewarded with the first goal from long range hit by Shona Clark from around 30 yards, looping over the goalkeeper, from here the ladies grew in confidence and continued to pepper the Aylesford goal, only for their goalkeeper to keep them in it! However, some good football was played, and the ball fell to the feet of Vicky Holness to calmly slot the ball for her 16th goal of the season! It all didn't go our way, a rare attack on our goal saw the ball hot the post and rebounded into our goalkeepers hand! Halftime came, the weather was getting worse, the ladies knew motivation was going to be tough to get back outside, but these girls are now becoming more professional and are beginning to realise their potential!
The second half started, and neither team really threatened, with the ball skidding all over the place or getting stuck in the puddles of water, both teams would have been happy to finish the game as soon as possible! With 20 minutes to go, some good football was played in midfield by Lesley Kay and Shona Clark, for a through ball to Alice Franks, who passed across the 18 yard box to Vicky Holness, who turned the defender and unselfishly passed the ball to Shona Clark who finished off by slotting the ball into the bottom corner!
No more chances for either team apart from long range efforts saw this game finish with all the ladies soaked through, a true and professional performance with the prize of three points and another clean sheet going to Herne Bay!
Some tough fixtures ahead but if the ladies can believe in themselves some more then who knows what this team can achieve!
