Herne Bay were hoisted by their own petard as Cray Wanderers completely outplayed them in all departments of the game. Bay were never at the races as Cray pressurised them right from the start; not allowing them to get into their normal swift passing game. In fact it was Cray who were playing one touch football, led brilliantly by former Dartford and VCD Athletic player Karl Dent. Dent never gave Bay’s midfield players time to settle on the ball and as soon as he gained possession he moved the ball expertly to his attacking players. Cray’s passing was akin to the way Bay played in their last two fixtures, but their pressure play all over the park stiffled Bay preventing them from creating any chances.

Bay opened very brightly, showing the confidence from the mid-week win, with Alex Mulrooney-Skinner cutting in from the right flank but his shot smashed into the side netting. Cray hit straight back and only a fantastic one hand diving save from Ben Hunter prevented Dent from opening the scoring.

They did open their account minutes later when they were awarded a very soft penalty; Jack Steventon adjudged to have pushed the lighting quick, Ben Mundlee off the ball in the six yard box. Michael Power made no mistake from the spot. Power doubled the lead, again from the penalty spot, after Hunter brought down Zac Henry.

Bay opened the second half much brighter and had two great chances to reduce the deficit but they both went begging. Power killed off the game, as early as the 55th minute when he was given far too much room on the edge of the area, placing the ball wide of Hunter inside the far post. Jake Embery headed a consolation goal, after Jono Richardson headed the ball back into the area from a far post corner, right on the final whistle.
