This was the Alex Mulroonet-Skinner show; scored the opening goal and set up the other three. The team performance outstanding. In the 2nd half the Hastings’ defence didn’t know what hit them and just could not stem, wave after wave of delightful attacking football that this young Bay side were producing.

Although it did not look good after 17 minutes play when David Rodari scored the hosts second goal. His first in the 11th minute was very dubious and a shocking decision by the officials. Ben Hunter being pushed by Rodari as he jumped to collect a cross. Being off-balance as he caught the ball, he hit the ground, releasing the ball. All the players stopped expecting the whistle and when none came , Rodari casually back heeled the ball over the line. Despite the protests the goal stood.
The defence was still not in the right frame of mind when six minutes later Rodari ended a good passage of play slotting the ball in the bottom corner. From this moment on Herne Bay took control of the game but had to wait until three minutes before the interval before Mulrooney-Skinner reduced the deficit, racing passed the defender to stroke the ball wide of the advancing keeper. He nearly levelled just before the break, his shot from 25 yards was turned away by the keeper for a corner.

The second half was all Bay. Two minutes into the half Jake Embery headed home Alex’s cross to the far post to bring the sides level. From another AM-S cross Junior Aikhioabare heads over the bar from 6 yards. Four minutes later AM-S again, beats the defender for pace and crosses into the box, finding Josh Wisson, whose glancing header when in at the far post, giving Bay the lead. Then to round off a stunning performance of wing play AM-S repeats the move allowing Jake to tap home to increase the lead. Three points, four goals and a satisfying revenge victory for the 0-7 drubbing we endured on our last visit to The Pilot Field.
