Report by Ray Kelly, Press Officer

High flying Faversham Town were brought down to earth by a resurgent Herne Bay in the 1-1 draw at Faversham's, Salters Lane. Bay were the far better side in the first half and only the Faversham cross bar prevented Bay having a healthy lead at half time.

From the start Bay could have opened the scoring when Byron Walker latched onto a bad back pass from Aiden Sherlock but could not find a way to get the ball out of his feet and sticky goalmouth
and past Faversham's keeper, Simon Overland.

Over the next 10 minutes Walker and the Turner twins,Michael and James, caused havoc in the Town's defence. In the 16th minute Walker forced a corner which Matt Bourne headed out for another corner . This time, Sam Bewick's cross was met by James Campbell, whose header thundered
against the cross bar.

Four minutes later Bay hit the cross bar again when, following a clearance from Town's Luke Harvey, Rhys Lawson crossed to find Michael Turner in space. He curled his shot past Overland but it was just too high as it hit the bar and bounced down the wrong side off the goal-line.

Faversham's only means of attack was to play the long ball for Renford Tenuye to chase down, but Calum McGeehan and Campbell were in superb form , cutting out any danger that came their way. In the 25th minute Favershams first real chance fell to former Bay player Jamie Maxted who headed high over from a free kick by Ashley Brown. The Turner twins both went close in the 27th / 28th. minutes and on 30 minutes Gary
Sayer's cross come shot was well saved , one handed, by Overland.

Former Bay Captain, Harvey went close with a good header but Rob French saved well and a minute later he again saved well at the feet of Tenuye. Seconds before the break Harvey missed a great chance when he
rounded Joe Nelder but fired his effort into the side netting.

During half time Faversham replaced Danny Lawrence and Sherlock with Aaron Lacy and Keiren Oliver. They started the second half in a fiery mood with heavy taclkles going in all over the field. Maxted and Bewick were both booked after they clashed Then in the 53rd minute, very much against the run of play,Faversham went ahead when former Bay player Toby
Ashmore fired in a shot from 20 yards that went in off the upright
Bay immediately made two changes, Michael Turner and Joe Nelder were replaced by Dean Grant and Nathan Eastwood.

Bay continued to pressurize and on 60 minutes ,following a Bewick free kick, Campbell's header found Overland well positioned to take the high ball.

On 65 minutes a Lacy long throw almost caught Bay out but French was alert to it and saved well from Harvey's connection.

James Turner and Lawson both went close before Turner was replaced by Dan Wisker in the 75th minute. Within a minute following a corner from Grant, Wisker headed against the cross bar. On 85 minutes the Lilywhites could have doubled their lead when a snap shot was well saved by French. From the counter Bay got the goal that their performance deserved when Billy Bennett latched on to a long ball and slotted the ball under the diving Overland.

Two minutes, later from another Lacy long throw French produced a wonder reaction save to tip the ball over the bar. This was the last real chance in the game and Bay can be very proud of their performance against the team that sits third in the table.

Faversham's Man of the match was announced as keeper, Simon Overland. which says a lot for the way Bay played today. Ironically the crossbar made more saves than the keeper!
