Herne Bay ended their long winless run with a hard-fought victory at Horsham on Saturday.
Byron Walker got the only goal of the game, running on to a lovely through ball from Rhys Lawson in the 16th minute to calmly slot past Michael Hunter.
The only reason they led at the break was down to the home side's profligacy in front of goal.
Horsham had ample chances to score, but could not find the net.
Scott Tipper was the man most guilty for the hosts. The best chance of the whole first 45 minutes fell to the home forward when Tom Bryant gifted him the ball, playing back to Rob French without looking.
Tipper took the ball on and had all the time in the world to finish, but French stood up to him and got something on the shot to divert it for a corner.
Tipper later planted a free header wide, while Gary Charman nicked the ball off Calum McGeehan in the area and shot past French, but the ball came back off the post.
Bay upped it in the second half and could have added to their lead. They tightened it up in the middle of the park and restricted Horsham's play, hitting their hosts on the counter attack when they had the chance.
And it was from one of those breaks, in the very last minute that Sam Bewick should have sealed it, but Horsham keeper Hunter got fingertips on his drive and tipped it onto the post.
