Herne Bay entertained Ramsgate in a Kent derby that promised a lot but
with both defences 'on the ball' for the first 75 minutes, chances were at a premium until the a brace of goals from the prolific Ian Pullman enhanced Ramsgate's play off ambitions.
The Rams ended the game as 2-0 winners which was hard on the Herne Bay side after looking the better side in the first half. Herne Bay started the brighter side with both Rhys lawson and Dean Grant attacking down both flanks producing some good chances but the defencive pairing of Curtis Robinson and Jon Equilor cut out most of Bay efforts in front of goal.
Byron Walker was guilty of missing two good chances, miss firing on both ocations and with the Bay well on top for the first 30 minutes they could not find the end result in front of goal. In the 31st. minute Pullman had his first real chance on goal but shot wide of the
target. A minute later Herne Bay's loan keeper,Gillingham's, Luke Nalder was brought into action, saving well at the feet of McCauley Murray.
After a couple of good runs from Sam Bewick Herne Bay looked the most likely team to score but the Rams. defence stood solid. With 5 minutes left in the half Walker was fouled on the edge of the box. Calum McGeehans kick was superbly tipped over the bar by Deren Hawkes to keep the score at 0-0 half time.
Ramsgate started the second half the much brighter side and after 2 minutes Pullman missed a great chance, shooting well wide from 10 yards.
Herne Bay made changes in the 60/65 minutes with Jordan Agbajae and Billy Bennett comming on for James Turner and Ben Brown.
The Rams started to apply pressure on the Bay's defence and on 72 minutes Pullman should have opened his account, but blasted wide from close range. But he was not to be denied and in the 82nd minute
he burst through, aided by some pretty weak challenges from Bay's defenders, giving him the time and space to drill the ball past Nalder. In the closing minutes he scored his second after poor defending by Bay, passing the ball across the back line, before McGeehan slipped allowing Pullman to take possession and slamming in from five yards.
McGeehan atoned himself for that error by preventing Pullman's hat-trick with a last ditch goal line clearance. Through out the game Sam Berwick was Herne Bay's out standing player ,he never stopped running all night.
