Match Preview, by Steve Barton
Sittingbourne beat Herne Bay at Woodstock Park back in November and at the time were in 14th place. They moved up to 10th with five wins, one draw and three defeats from their next nine outings. Freefall followed with just one point gained from the next possible 24. During this time a number of key players moved on to seek new opportunities elsewhere. The Brickies finished last season in 16th place and are currently in the same position.
Prior to the start of the season manager Chris Lynch told the Kentish Gazette: "What we're looking to do is build on where we were last year. I set the boys high targets but that's the way to move forward. Realistically, I believe we're in a much healthier position this year and, with a bit of luck, we might end up somewhere near the play-offs.”
With just one player remaining from the squad that Lynch inherited from previous boss Aslan Odev’s squad he told the Kentish Gazette in February: “We’ve made progress. The next step is can we really go and challenge? That’s the target for next season.”
Last campaign one point and one place separated the two side with Bay in 15th, whilst at present Bay lead Sittingbourne by 20 points and eleven places, but the Brickies have one match in hand.
Facts and statistics do not include Sittingbourne’s game at Haywards Heath Town on 03/03/2020.
