Back to back wins were recorded with this victory over struggling Chatham Town to end the calendar year on a high. Having hit the framework twice in the first half through Connor Sanders and Michael Turner Bay might have been excused thinking what they had to do to gain a crucial advantage over their relegation threatened visitors, writes Peter Guise.
Concern had been growing through late afternoon and early evening as to whether this match might go ahead due to a fogbound Winch's Field but the with the match started, the fog lifting and a strong first half performance behind them, hopes were also rocketing. Concern returned, though, just before the hour mark when Chris Elliott was adjudged to have fouled on the edge of the area and Luke Medley sent Jack Delo the wrong way from the penalty spot.
It stung Bay into more urgent action and with fifteen minutes remaining, debutant Ian Pulman who had looked sharp all evening, turned his defender and struck a fierce shot that rebounded off Alex Hyde's left hand upright and Danny Williams tucked the ball neatly into the empty net. All square and now Bay searched for the winner. It duly came at the death when James Turner, on as a late substitute struck the ball ferociously through the crowded six yard box. For the second match running Bay secured maximum points thanks to Denly's impact substitutions.
