Herne Bay's undefeated home league record dissipated into the cool October air after being two goals to the good inside the opening 21 minutes. It's a result that leaves Bay at the wrong end of the league table.

Ray Kelly writes: Herne Bay’s inconsistent form continued on Tuesday night, going down 3-2 at home to Carshalton Athletic.
Despite being 2-0 up after 21 minutes, Herne Bay proceeded to gift Carshalton with three goals with defensive errors, costing the Bay three valuable points. Carshalton fully deserved the points with their pacey forwards ripping through the Herne Bay defence at regular
intervals with Secou Kaba and Joshua Phillips being the main protagonists. For the first 15 minutes both teams looked intent on attacking with Ricky Korboa raiding down the left putting Bay under pressure and Danny Williams doing the same for the Bay. From the start long throw ons from Connor Sanders caused unease in the Carshalton defence and on 11 minutes one such throw almost led to the Bay going ahead when Adam Woolcott collected and fizzed in a shot that just cleared the cross bar. On 15 minutes Korboa and Kaba linked up well and only a good goal line clearance from Joe Kennett prevented any score. Herne Bay took the lead in the 19th minute when Connor Sanders latched on to cross, 20 yards out , and rifled in past Alexandros Kozakis in the Carshalton goal. Within 2 minutes Bay went further ahead in a very similar way with Connor Sanders on the end of a pass and the same result slamming the ball home.

Herne Bay tails were up and they went in search of a third goal and Danny Williams was unlucky to see an effort graze the post in the 24th.minute. On 25 minutes Carshalton pulled a goal back when Ricky Korboa set off on a mazy run through the Herne Bay defence
(unchallenged) before slotting past Jack Delo. Back came the Bay and following a Danny Walder corner Joe Kennett seemed in but his effort was cleared off the line by Bobby Price. Carshalton restored parity in the 40th minute when Paris Hamilton-Downes fired in a low cross that deceived Jack Delo and Joshua Phillips was on the line to bundle the ball in.

At the break Bay faced a very angry Sam Denly after seeing his side squander a 2-0 lead and after a ‘chat’ they were sent out early for the second half. The little ‘chat’ seemed to work and from the restart Danny Williams raced down the right before slamming in a stinging shot that Kozakis did well to save at the second attempt. Carshalton started to put the Bay under pressure and chances fell to Hamilton Downes and Kaba. On 62 minutes Herne Bay countered with Danny Williams setting up a good chance for James Turner but his final effort was scuffed into the keeper arms.

Carshalton took the lead on 81 minutes when a high cross caught out the Herne Bay defence, and Joshua Phillips headed in unchallenged at the far post. Herne Bay went looking for an equaliser but could not break down the Carshalton defence. A poor display by the Bay team for the fans to digest, they are much better than this and if they are to avoid a relegation battle this season they must wake up and smell the coffee.

Herne Bay: Jack Delo, Michael Turner, Gary Sayer, Joe Nelder (Chris Elliott 75), Joe Kennett, Connor Sanders, Danny Walder, Danny Williams, Mark Lovell, Adam Woolcott (Kane Phillip 77), James Turner (Staurt Zanone 72).
