Herne Bay continued their hot streak of wins with this seven nil thumping of struggling Peacehaven & Telscombe on a heavy pitch. It could have been a cricket score and if it had been a cricket match Bay could well have declared at the interval and still won by an innings.

“On a very difficult pitch I thought we played some really good stuff today”, said Herne Bay manager Sam Denly, “obviously a seven nil gives us a very good goal difference. A good day all round”.

Ray Kelly writes: Peacehaven’s relegation worries continue after being trounced by a hungry Herne Bay side at the Altira Park Stadium on Saturday. Herne Bay’s superiority was evident , putting Peacehaven under the ‘cosh’ from the kick off. For the first 20 minutes Lee Browning ,Joe Nelder and Sam Hasler all had good chances to open the scoring but a mixture of poor finishing and good goal keeping by James Shaw kept the scores sheet clean until the 26th. minute when Sam Hasler unlocked the Peacehaven defence with an unstoppable shot after running through from mid field.

Four minutes later Liam Quinn headed against the post following a Danny Walder corner. Further chances fell to Lee Browning and Mark Lovell before Sam Hasler settled the Bay’s nerves when he doubled the lead , showing some very fancy footwork, he breezed through the Peacehaven defence before slamming in his second of the game. Joe Nelder put the rampant Herne Bay 3 up just before half time when he nipped in past Jake Hampson and slotted in.

The second half started and the flood gates opened ,with the Bay scoring at regular intervals After only 2 minutes (47) the Bay went 4 up after a Sam Hasler free kick found Danny Walder in space and he tucked the ball in from close range. A minute later Danny Walder hit the post with a snap shot. On 54 minutes Herne Bay went 5 up after Peacehaven's Hamilton Bunga upended Joe Nelder in the box ,
Referee Mr Gary Jerdon pointed to the spot and Danny Walder slapped the ball past James Shaw.

A minute later on a rare foray into the Herne Bay half , Peacehavens captain, Chris Ransome tested Bay keeper Jack Delo who had to tip the ball over the bar. On 58 minutes Mark Lovell added another goal to the tally when he bundled the ball in from close range after a Sam Hasler corner.

The Peacehaven goal resembled ‘The Alamo’ with further chances going to James Turner and Sam Hasler before Elliot Cutts made it 7 in the 81st. minute when he nipped past Ben Ewing to slot past James Shaw. Peacehaven breathed a sigh of relief when the Referee Gary Jerdon blew for full time. This was an awesome display from the Bay and with a little more luck could have had double figures. This result puts Herne Bay in third place in the League with a game or two in hand of the others.

“We know that Peacehaven are struggling for various reasons but we still had to be at the races today”, said Denly, “it was only a matter of time, we could have been three of four up in the first ten minutes but I told the lads that we’ve got to be patient. We just had to keep doing the right things and if you keep doing that then you take a chance and away you go”.
