Herne Bay returned to away winning ways to keep their play-off ambitions alive with a second half blitz that condemned Swans to a heavy defeat and a continuing battle against relegation.

“It wasn’t a great first half but what we’ve got to expect is that teams are going to scrap against us, we’ve got to be patient and accept that teams are going to make it hard for us to break them down”, said Bay manager Sam Denly, “the second half we were much better, we played higher up the pitch and that was the game plan”.

Ray Kelly writes: Herne Bay are gradually cementing their aspirations as play off candidates after another excellent win at Walton and Hersham. From the kick off Bay slowly took control of the game , after a largely forgettable first half it is fair to say Herne Bay’s class shone through in the second half. The first real chance of the first half fell to Sam Hasler in the 7th. minute , following a foul on Lee Browning ,30 yards out. Hasler’s free kick shaved the cross bar. The Swan’s counter attacked with the diminutive T.J.Nkoma being very tricky on the left but his final ball was always lacking.

Joe Nelder went close for the Bay on 16 minutes and another Sam Hasler free kick was well saved by B.J. Teixeira in the Swan’s goal. Jack Delo was brought into action in the 31st . minute when he saved a low shot from Nkoma. In the 40th minute Brendan Murphy-McVey threatened the Bay goal but fired well over the bar when well placed.

Herne Bay started the second half full of pace and after only 3 minutes the Bay took the lead when a Sam Hasler cross was fumbled into the net by B.L.Teixeira. Within two minutes the lead was doubled when Charlie Slocombe sliced the ball into his own net after
Teixeira failed to hold a Dan Johnson cross .

Herne Bay continued to push forward and were rewarded in the 62nd. minute when a cross from Sam Hasler found Lee Browning unmarked on the far post where he headed in with aplomb. The Swan’s missed a glorious chance to pull a goal back in the 65th. minute when Jamil Okai headed over with the goal at his mercy but two minutes later Gareth Chendlik blasted in a 30 yard shot that flew past Jack Delo.

Herne Bay were encamped in the Swan’s half and increased the lead in the 82nd minute after a corner was headed on by Liam Quinn but once again Teixeira could not hold the ball and Connor Sanders slotted in with ease. At the final whistle it was job done
for the Bay and it was good to see Lee Browning showing the sort of form we know he has.

Herne Bay manager Sam Denly said, “A couple of soft goals to get us started, we haven’t had much luck with that this season and it turned for us today. We were excellent in the second half, we worked hard and there were some decent individual performances. Lee Browning got his first goal for the club and we go home happy”.
