Ray Kelly writes:

Former Herne Bay favourite , Steven Ita , spoilt Jack Delo’s record of not conceding by scoring
in the 39th. minute at Woodstock, home of Sittingbourne, but could not prevent Herne Bay from
winning the match 2-1 on Tuesday night. Two second half goals from Danny Williams and Mark
Lovell elevated the Bay into 4th. place in the League.

From the kick off , the ‘Brickies’ showed they were not going to be ‘push overs’ and Herne Bay had to dig in to get the result. The first real chance fell to Sittingbourne in the 7th. minute when Jono Richardson headed over when well placed following a corner. Back came the Bay , three minutes later , when Mark Lovell went close. On 15 minutes Jack Delo had to be on his toes when he took a high ball from a shot from Sittingbourne’s Josh Wisson. 2 minutes later Elliot Cutts headed against the Brickies cross bar.

In the 32nd. minute , Mark lovell was unlucky to see his effort hit the post after a good cross from Cutts. Steven Ita ended Jack Delo’s fine record when he slotted in from close range to put the Sittingbourne side 1-0 up in the 39th. minute. Jack’s record of not conceding for 641 minutes just fell short of Efram Ebelli.s tally of 667 minutes. A fantastic effort Jack.

Herne bay took control of the second half and went in search of an equaliser, half chances fell to Danny Williams and Sam Hasler but the ‘Brickies ‘ defence stood firm.On the hour mark Bay Manager Sam Denly put on Kane Phillip in favour of Danny Walder while the Sittingbourne Manager changed Steven Ita for Hicham Akhazzan. With Herne Bay dominating the play it was no surprise that they equalised when in the 70th. minute after a good cross from Connor Sanders , Danny Williams fired in giving Mansanet Vinceti in the
Sittingbourne goal no chance.

With in three minutes the Bay went in front following some great footwork by Elliot Cutts who crossed to Mark Lovell Who headed past Vinceti with aplomb. Throughout the second half Michael Turner and Dan Johnson both got down the flanks and behind the Sittingbourne defence , forcing several corners and half chances. With The ‘Brickies’ looking for an equaliser, Jordan Wells hit the post in the 83rd. minute and a minute later Jack Delo got down well to prevent Dan Hughes from scoring. Nathan Eastwood replaced Elliot Cutts in the 85th. minute followed by Dan Parkinson coming on for Sam Hasler.

Sittingbourne made the Bay work hard for this victory but the Herne Bay work ethic shone through. Herne Bay now sit proudly in 4th. place in the League. Well done lads.
