Herne Bay moved up to 7th in the league after completing the double over Three Bridges and extended their league run to 512 minutes without conceding a goal.
“Another excellent performance, we’ve struggled here since I’ve been in charge and it was a big game for us”, said Herne Bay manager Sam Denly, “it was important to come here and give a good account of ourselves. It was a thoroughly deserved win”.
Ray Kelly writes: Herne Bay’s sensational away form continued last Tuesday night at Three Bridges. They over ran the ‘Bridges’ in the second half playing some skilful football that often left Three Bridges chasing shadows. The first 30 minutes of this encounter was a dour affair with only a couple half chances falling to both teams. On 8 minutes Jack Delo rose high to collect a long throw from Sammy Macvicar and a few minutes later the Three Bridges Keeper Kieron Thorp had to be on his toes to take a 35 yard shot from the Bay’s Sam Hasler.
On 21 minutes Herne Bay almost took the lead when a thumping back pass from Lee Carney had the Three Bridges custodian in all sorts of trouble before he cleared the ball with Danny Williams breathing down his neck. Herne Bay started to gain control of the match with Williams , Sam Hasler and Joe Nelder all going close before the Bay opened the scoring in the 33rd. minute when Joe Nelder surged down the right and sent in a pin point cross to Sam Hasler who volleyed in from 15 yards. Herne Bay continued to keep up the pressure until the Half time break.
Three bridges made a change at half time , taking off the injured Jamie Crellin , he was replaced by Mark Pullin. Herne Bay doubled the lead on 49 minutes when Danny Williams chased down a high ball that the Three Bridges Keeper ,who rushed out and missed the ball leaving Danny to walk the ball in. The Bay took complete control of the game with Three Bridges looking a well beaten side and on
60 minutes a series of changes were made. Manager Sam Denly withdrew Elliot Cutts in favour of Mark Lovell and a few minutes later Dan Parkinson replaced Danny Walder. In the 77th minute Three Bridges were reduced to 10 men when Ben Godfrey was sent off for a
very bad tackle. Moments later they made a double substitution bringing on Allan Tait and Mitchell Cassellman for Hakeem Adelakun and Lee Carney in a bid to stem the tide.
Herne Bay continued to pepper the ‘Bridges’ goal and on 82 minutes Joe Nelder went on a solo run through the Three Bridges defence before slamming the ball past Thorp. Kane Phillip replaced Sam Hasler for the final 10 minutes. Further chances fell to Kane Phillip and
a cracking shot from Danny Williams hit the crossbar in the 87th. minute.
Another clean sheet means that the Bay have not conceeded a League goal for 512 minutes , all credit must go to the whole of the Bay defence ,what ever combination that has played.
“It was always about easing into the game, coming away from home on a Tuesday night is never easy”, said Denly, “going forward we look very dangerous but let’s not forget the lads at the back they deserve all the plaudits, all that hard work is now showing, no goals conceded in all that time is a fantastic stat. Those performances make it easy for me, there is a lot of football to be played so it’s down to me to rotate the squad sensibly. Everyone, including the subs are playing their part and that’s why we are achieving what we are at the moment”.
