Bay recorded their first ever win in the Ryman League against Faversham with this victory inspired by the two Kanes, Butler and Phillip, who terrorised the home full backs and combined to set up Danny Williams for the only goal of the game.

“The first half was some of the best football we’ve played this season and the last couple of seasons”, said Herne Bay manager Sam Denly, “a really good performance and we thoroughly deserved the win”

A superb all round performance gave Herne Bay all three points at Salters Lane against local rivals Faversham Town. The Bay’s football was sublime for most of the match and it left Faversham relying on the long ball and the odd counter attack. From the kick off Faversham were the first on the attack when on 4 minutes Stuart King got behind Liam Quinn and his attempted lob over Jack Delo went well wide of the goal.

From that moment on Herne Bay surged down both flanks with Kane Phillip and Kane Butler on the rampage putting in a stream of crosses. On 10 minutes Giorgio Russo overlapped down the right ,crossed to find Phillip who in turn played in Mark Lovell, in his effort to get on the end of the ball , Mark over stretched and pulled his ham string. Mark Lovell left the field and was replaced by Danny Williams.

Over the next 10 minutes both Sam Hasler and Kane Butler went close for the Bay. In the 25th. minute Ryan Cooper broke down the right firing over a cross that Bay’s keeper Jack Delo did well to palm over the crossbar. On 27 minutes Herne Bay took a deserved lead following good work from Giorgio Russo down
the right flank before crossing Kane Butler who in turn chipped the ball over to, Kane Phillip headed back into the centre and Danny
Williams struck the ball home.

Stuart King and Dean Grant looked dangerous on the break for Faversham but the Bay defence snuffed out any sort of threat. On 40 minutes a Danny Williams snap shot almost caught out Robert French in the Faversham goal but he hung on to the ball. With a minute left before Half time Wayne Wilson fired in a free kick from the edge of Herne Bays penalty box but Jack Delo saved superbly.

Faversham started the second half the brighter and it wasn’t long before Jack Delo was in action again , saving a Ryan Cooper shot this was followed a minute later by a Kane Butler strike that Robert French did well to keep out. In the 54th. minute Delo had to be on his toe’s again, punching out a Wayne Wilson free kick. Kane Butler and Kane Phillip were combining well up front for the Bay creating a string of chances. Danny Williams continued to harass the Faversham defence and French was called upon to make some timely stops.

With two minutes left on the clock Liam Quinn headed a Dean Grant effort off the goal line. Bay were still full of running and deep into injury time Danny Williams chased down a back pass to French and blocked his kick , it could have gone anywhere, but it went out for a Faversham throw.

Bay really deserved this win , being better in most departments and playing the brand of football that Sam wants, a superb display from all concerned.

“We kept the same formation but we’ve been a bit more attacking. We had a little bit more flair in there today with the two Kanes, both involved with the goal, and it’s paid off”, said Denly, “One thing we’ve got is a lot of quality in the squad, everyone will play their part and it’s easy for me to make changes because of that.”

Herne Bay moved up to 4th in the league with this victory and can now look forward to a break from league action when they visit Rochester United in the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday.
