Herne Bay's best start to a Ryman season was extended to three wins in three outings but they had to come from behind to secure the points. Danny Walder equalised from the spot just after the hour mark and Sam Hasler grabbed all the points in the dyeing moments of the game. Bay sit proudly atop the early season Division One South League Table.
Ray Kelly writes:
Herne Bay maintained their 100% League record thanks to a last minute goal from Sam Hasler against spirited Chipstead at the High Road Stadium.
The first half was an even affair ,dominated by both defences, with chances few and far between. Kerry Keoze missed a good chance after only 2 minutes when he headed over from close range after a good cross from Lewis Hamilton for the Chips and Steven Ita went close for the Bay a minute later. Both defences then shut up shop with Liam Quin and Nathan Eastwood in great form for the Bay and Owen Roberts and Steve Ibizugbe frustrating Ita and Cutts.
On 30 minutes Liam Quin almost put Bay in front when he rose above the defence to head over from a Danny Walder free kick. Herne Bay started to get on top but the Chipstead defence remained resolute.
Herne Bay were caught cold right from the kick off in the second half when Tyrone Pink raced through their defence to slam the ball past a startled Jack Delo. Within minutes Sam Denly decided to up the pace by putting on Kane Phillip and Danny Williams. They soon took the game to Chipstead and on 62 minutes Kane Phillip danced his way through the home defence before playing in Steven Ita only for the latter to be scythed down by Steve Ibizugbe in the box. Up stepped Danny Walder who sent the Chipstead keeper the wrong way to equalise from the penalty spot.
Herne Bay replaced Harry Brown (injured) with Sam Hasler in the 58th minute and started to swarm all over Chipstead in search of a winner with Sam Hasler and Steven Ita both having efforts cleared off the line by Ibizgube. With time running out Kane Phillip surged down the right before crossing to Sam Hasler who fired in past the hapless Keiran Campbell . Seconds after the restart the Referee blew for full time.
