Tonbridge Football Club was formed in October 1947 and was one of four clubs to be elected to the Southern Football League for
the 1948/49 season where they played until 1988/89 when relegation saw them drop into the Kent League. We met eight times in
the Kent League with Bay winning four, drawing two and losing two, scoring eleven times and conceding eight. Four seasons later
they were champions, with Herne Bay runners-up, six points behind, and Tonbridge once again became members of the Southern
League. They added Angels to their name in 1994 and after league reorganisation joined the Isthmian League in 2004/05. After
seven seasons, they gained promotion to the Conference but their stay was short-lived and in 2014/15 they were back in the
Isthmian Premier. In 2015/16 Angels lost 2-0 at East Thurrock United in the semi-finals of the play-offs and missed out by one point
from making the top five the following season.
On the way to the FA Cup Fourth Round in 1970/71 Herne Bay beat then Southern League Tonbridge 4-1, Eddie Collins scoring a
brace and the two Brown’s, Alan and Barry, one apiece, but then lost 3-0 away in the Preliminary Round in 1980/81.
More recently we travelled to Longmead Stadium in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round in September 2014 and a much-depleted
Bay squad without a recognised first-team striker lost 6-0. A year later, in August 2015, we met again, this time in the Isthmian
League Cup First Round, losing 2-0.
Angels currently sit in 14
th
place in the Isthmian Premier following two wins (Hendon and Brightlingsea Regent), one draw
(Margate) and two defeats (Harrow Borough and Folkestone Invicta). On Saturday, they travelled to Salters Lane to meet
Faversham Town in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup and lost 3-1, with Mark Lovell netting a brace for the Lilywhites in the
